12 below zero!!!

Yes...that was the ACTUAL temp yesterday (Friday) morning here in Indy.
Photobucket
Mom made Maggie and I wear these STOOOOPID sweaters! We might look like we're posing nicely here, but we were sitting and glaring at her in protest.

The GOOD news is that today (Saturday) our high temp is 29 ABOVE zero! Mom just let us outside and said it feels like shorts weather compared to yesterday!

Happy Saturday everyone!

Dinner from Peru (sort of...)

What's for dinner???
Photobucket

WELL...last night we tried something different! We asked Sandra and Coco for an AUTHENTIC Peruvian dish that we could make since we know very little about Peruvian cooking (other than what Anthony Bourdain showed us and we weren't too jazzed about eating pihrana!)

Sandra shared one of her favorites with us! Here is the picture of what it looked like last night and then her recipe is at the end of this post...
Photobucket

I even found a recipe online for "Piadina" (a grilled Peruvian flatbread) so I made that to go with the chicken dish!
Photobucket

"MMMMMM!!!! Can we have some???"
Photobucket

THANK YOU SANDRA!!!! Dinner was YUMMY and we have a TON of leftovers!!!!

PERUVIAN CHICKEN WITH RICE

Ingredients :
8 pieces of chicken
½ cup oil
1 medium size onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves minced
½ cup ají amarillo fresco / fresh yellow peruvian chili pepper, blended
1 cup cilantro, blended
2 red peppers, (1 chopped and the other in strips to decorate)
3 cups rice
1 cup peas
½ corn kernels
2 ½ cup boiling water
½ cup beer
Salt
Pepper

Preparation:

Season chicken pieces with salt and pepper and sauté in oil until golden. Remove chicken.
In the same pan, sauté garlic, onion, ají and cilantro.
Return chicken pieces to pan, add beer and continue cooking until chicken is tender. Remove pieces, keep them warm.
Add rice, peas, corn and peppers.
Pour water and cook at medium heat for 20 minutes more or until rice is done.
Serve rice with chicken pieces and garnish with pepper strips.

8 servings

*****
When you saute the chicken it doesnt need to be throughly cooked, it will cook later with the beer (less fat!)
Also, if you dont find the peruvian chili pepper, dont worry. It just wont be spicy. If you still want to look for it, I posted a recipe on my blog a while ago and it had the pic of the chili in there
http://pugnetwork.blogspot.com/2008/10/chili-cook-off.html

they sell them in ethnic stores, sometimes already prepared as a paste.

(Laura's notes......we could NOT find the aji amarillo pepper in ANY of the 3 ethnic grocery stores we tried. I subbed a small amount of chipotles in adobo sauce which gave everything a nice smokey flavor but probably completely changed the ethnicity of the dish!....I also used the ENTIRE beer (minus 3 big swigs) in place of some of the water and just personal habit/preference...we cut waaay back on the oil and just used a small drizzle of olive oil to get it all started)

Holden got a nice surprise this morning...NO SCHOOL!

All of you true Midwesterners and Nor'easters...feel free to laugh at what constitutes a snow day in Pendleton, Indiana...

Ok...AFTER Holden gets some SOCKS on....this is pretty much the scene all day today! Does he look like the happiest kid on the planet right now or what? :-)

Stay warm everyone!

Doesn't anyone see that these pugs are STARVING?

Thanks so much to everyone who went and introduced themselves to Maggie and her blogger...12 year old Chelsea!!! Great job on the blog so far Chelsea!!!!

Maggie is back at my house again! With all the playing we've been doing along with my new weight control food, we are S T A R V I N G! (can't you tell?)
Photobucket
FEEEEEEED US!

We've been scrounging in the couch cushions for old popcorn, crumbs...ANYTHING

OH....MAIL TRUCK!
Photobucket
Did Janie the Mail Lady bring us any food??????????

OH....HOLDEN IS HOME!
Photobucket
Did you bring us any leftovers from your lunchbox?

OH....DADDY IS HOME!!!
Photobucket
Well...he brought food...but it's only cilantro. Hardly pugworthy!

OH....HOLDEN IS EATING CHEX!!!!!!!!
Photobucket
We got a FEW, but we really wanted something to satisfy our sweet teeth!!!

NO WAY...COOL WHIP!!!!
Photobucket

Save some for me!!!
Photobucket

I think Maggie got most of it, so I licked the leftovers off of her head!
Photobucket

Happy Hump Day everyone!

***Mom's note*** Ok...everyone calm down and don't go calling the ASPCA on me. The Cool Whip bowl was EMPTY and these PIGS (I mean Pugs) are getting plenty to eat!!!!

We interrupt our normal programming......

Ok, this isn't Pug related, but we have to share mom's latest obsession....

Some of you that know mommy know that she LOOOVES infomercials (mainly for kitchen stuff or other "gadgety" things). PEARL did a post about her mommy getting the SNUGGIE, so we thought this was a good time to share mom's new favorite commercial...

She yells "SHHHHHHHHH!!!" whenever the "ShamWow Guy" (as she calls him) comes on and then laughs like a lunatic.

He kind of has a face like a Pug....maybe that's why she likes it so much!!!!

Happy Tuesday!

Greetings from Indiana on this COLD and windy Tuesday!
Photobucket

We don't have anything new to report right now other than the ridiculous temps that we have and they're supposed to get WORSE (our high temp tomorrow is 9!). Holden and I spent yesterday afternoon all snuggled up
Photobucket

Mommy made me a "Puggy Nest" last evening so I could snuggle up with Phoebe (my small Pug stuffie).
Photobucket

MAGGIE is back with us for a few days (YAAAAY!) She got here last night and mom hasn't fired up the camera yet, so when we wake up from our naps, I'm sure we'll be feeling photogenic!

Stay WARM everyone!!!

Help me welcome a NEW BLOGGER!

Hi everyone!

My friend Maggie has her own BLOG now! Click HERE to check it out!

Since Maggie doesn't have opposable thumbs either (bummer!) her blog is being created and typed out by CHELSEA who is 12 years old and a 7th Grader at Pendleton Middle School! We give her 2 enthusiastic paws up for her very first blog entries!!! Way to go Chelsea!

Here is a good pic of Mommy and Chelsea with ME (Salinger) in the background
Photobucket
They don't ALWAYS dress like this (well...not MOST days!). It was halloween and Mom borrowed Holden's football uniform and Chelsea borrowed her brother Seth's (he and Holden played on the same team).

So everyone go visit MAGGIE'S BLOG and give some nice props to Chelsea!!!!

Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

OH...PEE-S. Maggie is coming back to stay with us again on SUNDAY! WHOOHOO!

Busy Thursday of NOTHING!

Maggie and I had a great day of LYING AROUND yesterday (Thursday)!

Here we are in action! Check us out...that's some HARDCORE ZZZZZZs!!!
Photobucket

About the only times we got up were to check out random noises. Mom had the NERVE to wake us up when she went out for the mail...
Photobucket
"Um...hellooooooo...you TOTALLY interrupted our nap with your shutting of the door!"

Then we heard a MAJOR noise coming from down the street........
Photobucket
"DUDE...there's a big ol monster coming!!!"

Here's a video showing what REALLY went down.....

Not EXACTLY a monster...but still pretty loud!

Maggie's daddy picked her up yesterday afternoon :-( We were glad to hear that mom's friend Dyan's father is doing a bit better, but we let them know that Maggie is welcome here ANY time. We had a lot of fun and it gave Mom and Dad a good look at what life would be like here with TWO Pugs. You may hear some news in the coming year (but NOTHING until Spring rolls around!!!)

Have a good weekend everyone!!!

Pugs a deux progress

Happy Thursday everyone...Laura has hijacked the blog today while Salinger and Maggie are recharging their batteries...
Photobucket
Awwwwwww...look, Salinger "The Load" is giving Maggie lots of her own space!

I have to say, I'm very pleasantly surprised that things are going as well as they are! NO messes in the house, NO fighting, NO destruction and NO overt jealousy on Salinger's part........YET! (knocking anything even close to wood).

The Pugs seem to be on a cycle of fast and furious play, then extreme sleep. One of them will wake up and hear something and BARK BARK BARK and then it all starts over again! HAHAHAAA!

Photobucket
"Maggie...wake up...we have to go bark at the meter reader!!!!"

Here is a cute video I shot yesterday. You may want to MUTE your speakers...I blame the audio on my camera but I swear I do NOT sound like a Muppet (Kelly...Vikki...back me up here!!!)

Thanks for all of your encouragement everyone! We may consider a sibling sooner than we thought!

Thank you Punchy!

YAY! We got mail today! Mom ordered me one of the cool necktie sets from Punchy!!

Since Maggie is visiting, I haven't been getting my usual 23.5 hours of sleep a day, so I was a little crabby and strung out in this picture.

Photobucket
HAHAHAHA! Mom says it looks like I'm on my way home from a very hard night!!!!

Thank you Punchy! It fits perfectly and we promise to model the rest of the ties when I'm less crabby.

You can click HERE to see them in her ETSY store!

Happy Hump Day everyone!

We have TWO Pugs.....temporarily!!!!

BIG news!!! We are going to be a TWO PUG HOUSEHOLD for the next few days!!!

My friend MAGGIE is going to stay here with us because her humans (Mommy's good friend Dyan) have a family emergency in Ohio. Maggie's family called us tonight to see if we could take her to Little Rascal's Pet Motel in the morning. Mommy and Daddy figured that since Maggie and I play together ANYWAY...why not just have her come stay with us? WHOOHOO!
Photobucket
That's Maggie on the right. We were taking a break from playing "I'm gonna push you off the couch sucka!"

I sensed that Maggie was nervous about staying somewhere away from her house, but I tried to reassure her and make her feel comfortable.
Photobucket
"Don't worry Maggie! We'll take good care of you and have lots of fun!"

Stay tuned for more details of our DOUBLE PUGGINESS over the next few days!!!!

Sometimes you CAN judge a book (or dog) by its cover (or food packaging)!

Ok...I'm starting this post off by telling you that I am NOT amused at some of the goings on here of late. FIRST off...at my last visit to the vet a few weeks ago, I weighed 26 (yeah TWENTY SIX) pounds! Dr. Graves nicely told Mommy that I was too much of a load and that my next bag of Eukanuba should be the WEIGHT CONTROL formula.

This is a good time to show you the packaging on my OLD food.......
Photobucket
See? Normal Eukanuba Adult Small Breed formula has a picture of a cute little Papillion or whatever that little thing is......

Mommy has been telling everyone that she and daddy almost peed themselves laughing when they went to PetSmart to get me this new Weight Control food and saw THIS on the package.......
Photobucket
OMG! A fat Pug!

Photobucket
You gotta be freakin' kidding me with this!!!!

Now I ask you......do I look ANYTHING like this guy???
Photobucket
Come on...I'm WAAAAAAY better looking than this portly fool!!!!

On a good note...my new food is quite tasty! Mom and dad mixed it with my old stuff to get me used to it, but I don't mind it a bit. Hopefully in the next few months, I'll drop a few pounds and be in top form before you know it!

She might even order me some new BEACHWEAR like this guy has on...
Photobucket
HAHAHAHAHAA!

January Pug Meetup!

Hi everyone! I went to the Indy Pug Meetup today and got to play with my friends! Mom says it's hard to take pics because we're all running around like maniacs, but here are the ones that she and daddy were able to get...

Photobucket
That's me in the front of my friends. I'm wearing my Colts jersey today because they are hopefully going to beat the Chargers tonight and advance in the playoffs!

Photobucket
I got a kiss from Bernice! (Sophie wasn't looking...shhhhhhhhh)

Mommy hugged all over Pippin
Photobucket

I got a big hug from Jami (Apollo's mommy)
Photobucket

Here's mommy hugging Apollo...
Photobucket

Then I got jealous and had to come give her "the look" to make sure I was still her favorite...
Photobucket
"YES SALINGER! You're STILL my favorite and always will be!"

Once I found My Sophie in the sea of Pugginess...I stole a little kiss from her.
Photobucket

The Indy Pug Bloggers got together for a quick picture...
Photobucket
That's MY mommy (who types MY blog that you're reading right now)
Kelly from The Misadventures of Pugs and Bugg
and Vikki from The Pug Posse

Isn't that COOL that we can all get together? You'll have to forgive mom for getting a little happy with the hyperlinks. She's still so excited that she finally figured out how to do it, so she's making up for lost time!!!!

After an HOUR of running around with my Puggy friends, we left to go home because it started to get COLD. Here is a nice pic of Holden walking me back to the car.
Photobucket
I got a nice warm scrubby BATH when we got home and now I'm asleep out on Holden's lap. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Happy Saturday everyone and GO COLTS!!!!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy 2009 everyone!!!!

I understand that New Year's Eve is supposed to be a BIG night for humans going out and celebrating at big loud parties, so I felt quite lucky that MY humans weren't into all that last night!
Photobucket
OOOPS....daddy why are you hiding???

Photobucket
THERE...that's better!!!

We all stayed home together and ate Blini with sour cream and caviar, mini sammiches, deviled eggs, guacamole and pretty much whatever else we all felt like!

We DID go out together though...right after the sun set, we drove to the back of our subdivision near a big field so we could stargaze!
Photobucket
I had a very good vantage point on mommy's lap!
Venus, Mercury and Jupiter were ALL visible last night! Venus was right below the moon. You might have to use your imagination...but I swear it's in this picture!
Photobucket
See Venus? It's right below the crescent moon! Mercury and Jupiter were a bit further to the west and just above the horizon right after sunset. Our pictures didn't come out of them. Bummer.

Our wish on these stars is for ALL of our friends and family (human and canine!) to have the BEST 2009 possible, full of happiness, good health and any other well wishes you can dream up!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Thank you Melissa and Emmitt!

We got a VERY special delivery in the mail yesterday! We ordered one of Melissa's "Emmitt" dolls/pillows!!!
Photobucket
Melissa included a wonderful surprise...two of her Pugnote cards!!! We decided they're WAAAY too cute to actually use...so we're going to put them in a double frame and put them in the study!

Thank you Melissa and Emmitt! We love having our own little "Emmitt" here in the house!!!

***Mom FINALLY figured out how to make hyperlinks work!!!! Can you believe it?***
