Fish with Chives

HAHAHA...NO, this isn't one of Winston and Clemmie's Foodie Friday posts! Just new photos to share!

Mom went to Super Target the other day and spent almost TWO HOURS just wandering around by herself sipping on her Iced Venti Decaf Americano from Starbucks. I think all that alone time coupled with the Starbucks euphoria clouded her judgement because she got me THIS scary thing from the dollar bin!

I think my face says it all...I am NOT fan of this fish! Mom had to bribe me with cheese just to get this picture snapped! What kind of creature has eyes this googly (hahaha!) and WHAT is with those lips? Mom named the fish "Angelina" and keeps SQUEAKING it at me, but I'm STILL not going anywhere near it!

Ok...calling all green thumbs...(yeah, we're talking to YOU Auntie Kyle!). Mom's chives now look like THIS
Photobucket
They're very pretty and flowery, but is that GOOD? They still taste good (according to mom) but do we leave the flowers alone or do we need to cut them back??? Mom has had these chives for a few years and this is the first time they've ever done this before! What gives?

Have a WONDERFUL Friday everyone!!!!

So... because I have nothing better to do... I googled some info on chives when they flower. The concensus seems to be that not only are the flowers fine, but you can EAT them too! There are all kinds of recipes out there using the flowers! Weird!

Salinger... agreed on the creepy fish. Our moms are nuts.

Have a good weekend friends!!!!!

looks like your chive plant is happy!
the fish is too fun and we love that mom got it from our favorite place... the dollar bins!

Salinger - See what happens when our moms have too much time on their hands? Target is a scary place and the dollar bin is like the black hole!

Please hide Angelina before I arrive because I don't want her lips anywhere near me! Cheese or no cheese, I wouldn't pose with her! Hopefully she is not full of BPA.

Those chives look very lovely. I say if they taste good then eat them. I see that Pearly Poo found some helpful information about the flowers - she's so smart, isn't she?

Salinger, I agree with you about the fish - SCARY and CREAPY!

I have some chives, but they've never flowered - I'm jealous of yours.

Target is a wonderful place, only I enjoy the aroma of Pizza Hut Bread Sticks at mine!

Whoa, those are some big lips. I agree with Lex, definately the OctoMom. I'd run and hide it. Or put it in her bathtub. That would serve her right. haha

Gus would love that creepy fish! Of course we all know that Gus is...special ;-)

Our Mommy has garlic chives that have never flowered, so she can't help you there, but it looks like Pearl already got some info for you!

Pug hugs and kisses!

Nope, Sal, buddy....you don't look too happy with Angelina.

But then, when DO you look happy??

What a beautiful boquet of chives. Ours bloom too.

I guess I am a little different- but I am attracted to big eyes and big lips.
Some like em big, some like em little,
Some like squeaks and some likes quiet! Ok, I am silly

Those chives are lovely! They're doing just fine. You can eat the flowers, but the stems are really tough. The flowers are great in salads.

When the flowers are fading, trim them back (cut the stem at the bottom where it connects to the plant) and that's it. Continue to use the chives as normal. YUM!!
